Observation of the planet Uranus

Retour
Uranus

Icy giant with a blue-green hue due to methane in its atmosphere. It is tilted to the side, which makes it unique.

The icy and lying planet.

Characteristics

Uranus is one of the four gaseous planets, it is located about 2.87 billion kilometers from the Sun and takes 84 years to orbit around it.
It has a retrograde rotation and its inclination of 97.8° gives it its 'lying' appearance.
Methane is responsible for its sky-blue color.

Inclination of the axis

One of the unique characteristics of Uranus is its inclination at 97.8°, which makes the planet practically perpendicular to the trajectory of its orbit, as if it were rolling over it.

Composition

Uranus is composed of hydrogen and helium like Saturn and Jupiter, but differs by a higher percentage of ice (water, ammonia, methane).

Magnetosphere

The magnetosphere of Uranus is characterized by its unusual inclination of 59° to the planet's north-south axis.

Moons

Uranus has 27 known moons, including 5 major satellites: Miranda, Ariel, Umbriel, Titania and Oberon.

Rings

It has a system of 13 planetary rings possibly composed of ice.
