Observation of the planet Neptune

Retour
Neptune

The planet furthest from the Sun. Very windy and cold, it has a beautiful blue color and intense storms.

The planet furthest from the Sun.

Characteristics

Neptune is one of the four gaseous planets, it is located about 4.5 billion kilometers from the Sun and takes 164.79 years to complete its orbit.
It was discovered by deduction (it caused gravitational disturbances on the orbit of Uranus) rather than by observation.
It has the fastest winds in the solar system with more than 2,000 km/h.
Methane is partially responsible for its blue color.

Composition

Neptune is composed of hydrogen and helium like Saturn and Jupiter, but differs by a higher percentage of ice (water, ammonia, methane) like Uranus.

Climat

Neptune has a climate characterized by storm systems and winds going beyond 2,000 km/h, the fastest in the solar system.

Magnetosphere

Neptune's magnetosphere looks like that of Uranus with an inclination of 47° relative to the north-south axis.

Moons

Neptune has 16 known moons including Triton, the most massive.

Rings

It has a system of dark planetary rings.
